Frequently Asked Questions
What do you do at The Big Red Barn?
We teach classes in art, music & movement for ages 2-16. We also hold birthday parties,
special events and summer & holiday art camps.

Are you a daycare center?
No. The Big Red Barn offers weekly art classes and Mom's Day Out, but we are not a
traditional daycare center.

Are classes held in an actual barn?
No. The inspiration for The Big Red Barn comes from the big red barn that neighbored our
original location.

How much are your classes?
We strive to keep our prices as fair and affordable as possible. The costs of our classes vary,
based on the length of the class, materials required, etc... Camps are generally $125 per week
and weekly classes are $30/month and up.

Do you charge a registration fee?
No. We do not charge a registration fee, but our summer and holiday camps do require a
deposit to reserve your child's spot.

Do you offer activities for home-school groups, scout groups and/or playgroups?
Yes. If you are a member of a home-school group, scout group or playgroup, we can
accomodate you with a specialized class or activity to meet your needs.

Home-school groups can benefit from weekly or bi-weekly classes that offer discipline-based
art education. We can create lessons that reinforce and extend any topic that you may be
studying. We can also provide an art-for-art's-sake class that explores the 7 elements and 7
principles of art.

Scout groups can attend custom-created events at The Big Red Barn to earn credit for badges.
We also can offer scouts service opportunities.

Do you visit area schools?
Yes. If your school is interested in providing students with an on-site art education
experience, we will make every effort to satisfy your needs. Please call to inquire.

Do you follow a curriculum?
Because of its specialized nature, The Big Red Barn does not follow a standardized
curriculum. However, all of our lessons are fully planned and based on years of experience,
trial and error.
We are also always looking for new ideas to build on the old ones and do a lot of research in
educational books, online sources, etc.

In order for parents to stay informed of class activities, students are always sent home with a
"Barnyard Banter" newsletter. Barnyard Banter highlights the themes, projects and activities
that students enjoyed during their time at The Big Red Barn. The newsletter also provides
some take-home activities that parent and child can share at home.

What ages do you teach?
We offer activities and/or classes for ages 2  to 12 years.

Do you have any references?
Of course! As a parent, I understand how daunting it can be to leave your child with a new
caregiver or teacher. It is my goal for all parents to feel comfortable as possible with me and
our facility. For that reason, I am happy to provide you with references. Please call for names
and phone numbers. Thanks!
